The Emo Diaries (Informações)



The Emo Diaries é uma série de doze álbuns de compilações lançados pela Deep Elm Records entre 1997 e 2011. A série tinha uma política de envios abertos e apresentava principalmente atos que não estavam assinados na época dos lançamentos dos álbuns. O fundador da Deep Elm, John Szuch, afirma que o nome original da série deveria ser The Indie Rock Diaries , mas isso foi descartado pelo fato de que o primeiro volume incluía Jimmy Eat World e Samiam , que assinaram com a banda. gravadoras. O Emo Diaries foi escolhido porque The Emotional Diaries seria muito longo para caber na capa do álbum. Apesar do título, as bandas apresentadas na série têm uma diversidade de sons que nem todos se encaixam necessariamente no estilo emo.  Andy Greenwald , em seu livro Nothing Feels Good: Punk Rock, Teenagers e Emo , afirma que a série "aposta uma reivindicação de emo como mais uma estética compartilhada do que um gênero":
As bandas incluídas vêm de todo o mundo, e os estilos musicais vão desde o punk de corridas até o droopy, o electro do noodle. Ainda assim, a prevalência da série - juntamente com suas legendas sentimentais ( A Silêncio [em] Meu Coração , eu acho que isso é adeus ) e arte de capa de tatuagem maníaco-depressiva - fez muito para codificar a palavra "emo" e espalhá-la para todos cantos do underground.

O próprio Deep Elm observou que a política de submissão aberta e a diversidade de bandas da série o tornaram único: "Apenas a música importava. A Deep Elm nunca tentou definir nenhum estilo musical, pois acreditamos que qualquer combinação de composição, letras e ao vivo desempenho significa algo diferente para cada ouvinte ". Os Diários Emo destaque então novo e músicas inéditas por tais actos notáveis como The Appleseed Cast, Brandtson , Further Seems Forever , Jejune , Jimmy Eat World, The Movielife , Planes mistaken for stars, Samiam. Dez parcelas foram lançadas entre 1997 e 2004, após o que a série foi oficialmente interrompida. De acordo com o selo:
Deep Elm citou a bastardização do termo "emo" na cultura pop de hoje, bem como o estrangulamento do mainstream e posterior comercialização do gênero, que colocou o foco diretamente na estética ... não a música, a energia ou a paixão. Essencialmente, o Deep Elm se recusou a jogar o jogo e fechou as portas do gênero que eles ajudaram a documentar, nutrir e expor ao mundo.

No entanto, em 2007, o selo publicou um décimo primeiro capítulo da série intitulado Taking Back What's Our . Em abril de 2010, Deep Elm começou a solicitar submissões para uma décima segunda parcela de The Emo Diaries , que foi lançada em janeiro de 2011 como I Love You But in the End I Will Destroy You .
Apesar de toda essa polêmica sobre o selo e a Deep Elm se tornando uma major índie vale a pena conferir algumas compilações do Emo Diaries.
